Day 1
Arrival – Warm Maasai Welcome
Your journey begins the moment you arrive at Tembo Lodge. Greeted by our Maasai staff, you settle into your charming bungalow and take in sweeping views of the savanna, with Kilimanjaro and Meru mountains painting the horizon. Connect with Maasai culture through a playful spear-throwing session guided by skilled warriors, then join a Maasai sundowner dance as the sun casts warm, magical colors over the plains. Sip a refreshing drink, enjoy a light snack, and gather around a crackling bonfire to share stories beneath a sky full of stars, feeling the heartbeat of Maasailand all around you.
Day 2
Culture & Education
Spend the day connecting with the heart of the Maasai community. Begin with a visit to the local school, which is the reason the lodge was built – to help our NGO Maasailand Development finding running costs. Experience how education brings opportunities and hope for the children and the wider community. Step into the highlight of the Maasai week with a visit to the vibrant local market (on market day). Here, villagers gather not only to trade but also to connect – sharing stories, laughter, and news of daily life. Explore fresh vegetables, local shoes, colorful fabrics, and even goats and cattle, offering a lively window into Maasai culture. In the evening, immerse yourself in the rhythm of a traditional Maasai boma.
Day 3
Bush Walk & Maasai Traditions
Immerse yourself in the rhythms of the land on a guided bush walk through the savanna or as an optional alternative to TingaTinga mountain. Learn about local plants and Maasai traditions while observing wildlife like giraffes and zebras moving gracefully across the plains. Return to the lodge for a peaceful afternoon break before joining the Maasai for a traditional barbecue around the fireplace. Share stories, laughter, and connection as the day comes to a close, carrying memories that linger long after your journey.
Day 4
Journey to Lake Natron
The adventure continues as you drive to the isolated and dramatic Lake Natron, about 5-7 hours from Tembo Lodge. Far from the usual tourist route, the landscape of the Great Rift Valley unfolds before you, with the majestic Ol Doinyo Lengai – “the Mountain of God,” as it is called by the Maasai – dominating the horizon. Pass through desolate plains and typical Maasai lands before arriving at your lodge or camp. Take the afternoon to relax and soak in the serene surroundings.
Day 5

Start the day with an easy guided walk to the southern shores of Lake Natron. Discover its alkaline waters, flamingo breeding grounds, and fascinating ecology. See the ancient Hominid Footprints, believed to date back almost 120,000 years, and encounter local wildlife, including giraffes along the way. In the afternoon, hike through a gorge to the stunning Ngare Sero Waterfalls, crossing rivers and climbing rocky paths. Refresh in the natural pool beneath the falls, surrounded by lush scenery, before returning to your lodge to unwind.

Hyenas and other predators may be spotted, adding to the excitement of this iconic ecosystem. The sweeping horizon and dramatic skies create perfect moments to pause, take in the scenery, and capture unforgettable photos. Drive to your base in central Serengeti, to relax, enjoy a sundowner, and let the sights and sounds of the wild linger as the day comes to a close.

Watch wildlife stir below, from grazing herds to predators on the move, and capture breathtaking views of the savanna stretching to the horizon. Those who take part can enjoy a celebratory bush breakfast upon landing. For all guests, the tour continues with a game drive through central Serengeti, taking in the wide-open landscapes, dramatic skies, and the thrill of spotting wildlife in its natural habitat.
Day 9
Ngorongoro Crater Adventure
Set out from the Serengeti on a scenic drive toward the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, passing through rolling savannas and small villages along the way. Descend into this natural wonder, a vast volcanic caldera that shelters one of Africa’s richest concentrations of wildlife. Watch for lions basking in the sun, elephants moving gracefully through the grass, zebras grazing in harmony, and, with luck, the elusive black rhino. The dramatic crater walls rise around you, creating a breathtaking amphitheater of nature where every turn of the track reveals a new scene of life on the African plains. After exploring the crater floor, continue to Karatu for the night.
