Your 7-Day Adventure
Day 1
Arrival – Warm Maasai Welcome
Your journey begins the moment you arrive at Tembo Lodge. Warmly greeted by our Maasai staff, you settle into your charming bungalow and take in sweeping views of the savanna and distant Kilimanjaro and Meru mountain views. Connect with the Maasai culture in a playful spear-throwing session guided by skilled warriors, then join the Maasai sundowner dance as the sun sets painting the plains with warm magical colors of an African sunset. Sip a refreshing drink, enjoy a light snack, and end the evening around a crackling bonfire, sharing stories beneath a sky full of stars.
Day 2
Culture & Education
Spend the day connecting with the heart of the Maasai community. Visit the local school supported by the lodge, meet the children, and see how education is making a real impact on the next generation and the wider community. In the evening, step into a traditional Maasai boma to experience daily life and gain insight into a culture that has thrived in harmony with the land for centuries.
Day 3
Bush Walk & TingaTinga Mountain
Today combines the beauty of nature with the richness of the Maasai culture. Wander through the savanna on a guided bushwalk, learning about local plants and Maasai traditions. With wildlife as our next door neighbours, you might come across giraffes and zebras along the way. This half day adventure takes you to TingaTinga Mountain, a hill where you will enjoy panoramic views over the village and the endless plains. After lunch, return to the lodge for a restful break before joining the Maasai for a traditional Maasai BBQ around the fireplace.
Day 4
Untouched wilderness of Enduimet
Early in the morning, you set out with packed breakfast and lunch for a full day adventure to the Enduimet Wildlife Management Area, just an hour’s drive from TingaTinga. Lying at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, it is known for its large elephant population and unspoiled landscapes. With few visitors, Enduimet offers a rare, authentic safari where wildlife and the Maasai live side by side. Expect sweeping views, diverse wildlife, and a true sense of wilderness before returning to the lodge in the afternoon. Relax in the evening and reflect on a day of adventure at the lodge.
Day 5
Local Community Connections
Step into the highlight of the Maasai week with a visit to the vibrant local market. Here the villagers gather not only to trade but also to connect—sharing stories, laughter, and news of daily life. Fresh vegetables, local shoes, colorful fabrics and even goats and cattle make the market a lively window into the Maasai culture. You’ll also meet the women’s groups supported by our NGO, Maasailand Development: a sewing and a beadwork group. Sit with them, learn traditional craft, and perhaps create a piece of beadwork yourself. Their beautiful designs bring life and color to Tembo Lodge, each piece carrying a story of tradition and empowerment.
Day 6
Kilimanjaro Day Hike
Set out on a guided day trip adventure to the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. The full-day hike (about 6-8 hours) takes you through lush forest and open moorland before reaching the Shira Plateau at 3500m. Along the way, keep an eye out for colobus monkeys in the treetops, playful baboons, and unique alpine flora found only on Kilimanjaro’s slopes. From the plateau the views of the mountain above and the endless plains below are simply unforgettable.
Return to Tembo Lodge for a well-deserved relaxing evening.
Day 7
Church Visit, Farewell & Departure
As an optional activity you may begin your morning with a heartfelt visit to the local Maasai Lutheran church, where the community gathers in song, prayer, and celebration. Share in this authentic experience before returning to the lodge for a warm farewell and your transfer to the airport or onward journey.
